ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is excited to announce a new partnership with the San José State University School of Information to help expand access to books, libraries, and educational resources across Africa. As part of this partnership, SJSU School of Information is supporting a fundraising effort to fund three containers of books—one bound for Kenya, one for Nigeria, and one for Ghana. Together, these shipments will help put thousands of books into the hands of students, educators, families, and communities across the three countries. The fundraising effort will be highlighted during Gardens of Hope for Africa, an intimate gathering taking place Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. PT at Pegasus Gardens in Marin County, California.

The Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is very proud to announce several notable additions to its Advisory Board.  The Advisory Board is co-chaired by Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General and Walter Mondale, former US Vice President.  A list of all current advisory board members is available at www.booksforafrica.org/law.

Raised in Nigeria, Woodbury ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø for Africa super-volunteer has a niche. Mike Essien knows the power of literature, especially during the formative years — how it broadens a person’s worldview, fosters learning and drives curiosity.

Peace Corps Volunteers Tim and Anne Reneau-Major worked tirelessly to fundraise to send a container to western Uganda.

Akintola Anthony Akinbote Esq. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø and it's Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative extend heart-felt condolences to the family and colleagues of Akintola Akinbote on his untimely passing on February 19, 2013. At the time of his death he was the Secretary General of the Pan-African Lawyer's Union and has been one of strongest advocates for the rule of law in all of the continent of Africa. During 2010-2012 Akin was a prominent member of the Advisory Board of the Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. The Advisory Board is headed by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and former US Vice President Walter Mondale. Current Advisory Board member Yvonne Fiadjoe, Senior Counsel for the African Development Bank, said of Akin, "Africa has lost a true luminary. It is a sad day for the continent. "
